Trees For Schools

Education Presentations

Since 1994, Trees For Houston has had an educational program that it presents to third-grade classes.  It demonstrates the benefits of urban forests and the basics of tree life. Devon Energy makes this program possible. Their generous donation has helped us reach thousands of students.

Each student will receive a growing together kit – including a native-tree seed, container of soil, bookmark-ruler, and recycled pencil all provided by Devon Energy.

Trees

Each year, Trees For Houston plants trees at schools. Averaging about 25 campuses a year since 1994, we have planted over 800 trees. These trees foster pride and cooperation in the students and their community.

Urban ForesTree Keeper

The Urban ForesTree Keeper (UFTK) is a FREE tree-care course offered each fall. It teaches basic horticultural principles: tree identification, planting techniques, site selection and planting care.

Through this course, we furnish knowledgeable people who will as owners or volunteers care for trees in municipalities, school districts, neighborhoods, and yards.

The classes consist of 4 hours of classroom instruction, one tree planting day and one tree identification workshop at the Houston Arboretum. After you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate of completion, Trees For Houston t-shirt and be a certified Urban ForesTree Keeper.

The 2010 Class schedule is below.

Class II: Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 6-8pm
