On Thursday, March 27, Trees For Houston’s 2025 Root Ball: Branching Out celebrated the organization’s history and successes, leaving an imprint on Houston’s urban tree canopy.  Having planted and distributed over 880,000 trees across 47 regional zip codes, Trees For Houston’s work is as broad as a live oak canopy, leaving a lush imprint for all of us – creating shade, beauty, and cleaner air.

The annual event hosted more than 440 tree-loving Houstonians. It raised a record-breaking $600,000 to support Trees For Houston’s mission to plant, protect, and promote trees throughout the Greater Houston area. The rain held off during the outdoor event, and guests were all smiles as they walked the azalea-lined path to the party.

Chairs Sheila Condon and Juli Japhet celebrated with guests at the 31st Annual Root Ball under a majestic tent projecting gorgeous foliage above. Guests were welcomed with lamb lollipops, beef Wellington bites, and tuna tostada appetizers, along with the signature drink, a Branch Water. Attendees eagerly participated in the wine and spirits pull. Among the 125 bottles were high-end labels like Garrison Brothers Bourbon and WhistlePig.

Guests gathered on the transformed clay courts for dinner – a colorful offering of chicken piccata, sea bass, kabocha squash risotto, and chef’s farmer’s market vegetables. Stunning florals arranged by H-E-B and native trees around the tent created a naturally stunning ambiance. Mini desserts and coffee were enjoyed as the video presentation brought the crowd to applaud the success of Trees For Houston. Paddles were raised to further support the organization – and the goal of $50,000 was easily met.

Following dinner, guests continued mingling and sipping as Thomas Cokinos entertained guests with a lively piano performance, including song requests and sing-alongs.

When departing, eventgoers took home unique Bur Oak acorns as a token of appreciation for being seeds for future growth.  Check out more pictures on Facebook
