Trees for Houston is thrilled to extend a warm welcome to our youngest tree huggers for our monthly education series, Rooted in Books.

In November, children aged 2 to 5 are invited to join us at Trees for Houston’s Kinder Campus inside the Bauer Education Center to discuss all the reasons we are thankful for trees!

Join us for a morning of enchanting stories, educational songs, a nature craft, and an outdoor walk to observe the wonders of trees up close.

Make sure to reserve your child’s spot, because space is limited. We kindly request that an adult accompany their child during this enriching experience.

Youth Education: Delightful Dendrology November

Trees for Houston is excited to offer a tree science class for students ages 6 to 12!

In November, our young dendrologists will explore reasons we are thankful for trees! Students will learn about the many benefits that native trees offer to the city of Houston through hands-on activities and a science experiment.

Weather permitting, we will go on a short nature walk to the Chevron Tree Nursery, so please dress for the outdoors.

Hope you can gather with us during Thanksgiving week to reflect on our gratitude for trees!

This monthly educational series is offered free of charge due to the generous sponsorship of Centerpoint Energy.

Note: Space is limited, so please sign up only if your child can attend.

Parent Policy for Youth Education Classes

  1. Attendance Requirement:

    • A parent or caregiver is required to remain on the Trees for Houston Kinder Campus during the entire hour-long class session.
      Observation and Waiting Options:

      • Parents and caregivers have the option to observe the class in action inside the Bauer Education Center. Alternatively, they may wait in the shaded pavilion outside the classroom or on the bench in the office lobby.

  2. Supervision of Non-Participants:

    • If additional children are present who are not participating in the class, parents or caregivers are responsible for their supervision at all times to ensure safety. We recommend bringing a light snack or a small activity to help keep them engaged. The Kinder Campus is both a learning environment and an active workplace. We kindly ask all visitors to help us maintain the space by respecting the building and its facilities.

Trees For Houston Book Club

Branch out and connect with like-minded readers who love both books and trees!

Trees For Houston is starting an adult book club! This month the book will be “The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben.

A Trees For Houston staff member will lead the discussion with questions and prompts, but we encourage everyone to share their insights and ideas. 

As an environmental organization, we encourage the use of digital or used copies of the book. If you need help finding a copy, please contact Bailey@treesforhouston.org, and she will happily assist you get a free or very low cost copy. You can also get the book at a great price here.

A parent or caregiver is requested to remain on the beautiful Trees for Houston campus during the duration of the hour-long class. There is a lovely outdoor sitting area just outside the classroom to enjoy or adults are welcome to pull up a chair to observe the class in action.

In October, our young dendrologists will explore fall foliage! Students will learn why leaves change color in autumn, what types of native trees lose their leaves in the fall, and when can we expect peak fall color this year in Houston!

We will have a blast learning about chloroplasts!

Trees for Houston is excited to offer its first ever home school class for students ages 5 to 12! This initial class offering is free of charge and is intended to gauge interest in a potential monthly youth educational series with donation-based participation.

A parent or caregiver is requested to remain on the beautiful Trees for Houston campus during the duration of the hour-long class. There is a lovely outdoor sitting area just outside the classroom to enjoy or adults are welcome to pull up a chair to observe the class in action.

In September, learners will extend and deepen their knowledge of trees by exploring tree specimens as dendrologists do using all five of their senses. Weather permitting students will take a short nature walk out to the tree nursery, so please dress your child for the outdoors.

Adult Education | Tree Knowledge and Care

Trees For Houston is delighted to welcome Alexa Haass for an informative and engaging educational session focused on general tree knowledge as well as care and maintenance.

Alexa brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the class as a dedicated member of the Texas Master Gardener Association. In addition to her active membership, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Harris County Master Gardener Association.

This session promises to provide valuable insights into general tree knowledge and effective tree care practices, ensuring participants leave with a deeper understanding of Houston's trees!  

The class will take place at Trees For Houston on September 18th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Please sign up below- registration is free but space is limited.

Calling all young artists aged 8 to 12! Trees For Houston is excited to announce our collaboration with Kid Create Studio for a morning of learning and creativity!

Enroll your child for a morning packed with education and artistic expression. The session will kick off with a brief educational segment about the significance of trees in our environment. Following this, there will be an hour dedicated to fun-filled art activities, where students can craft and take home their very own "environment".

Drop-off time is no later than 9:30 am, and while parents are welcome to stay, we kindly request that they refrain from waiting in the education room. Please ensure pickup by 11:15 am.

Youth Education - Wild About Trees

In partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Trees for Houston is thrilled to announce its inaugural half-day camp!

Drop your kids off for a morning of educational fun at Trees for Houston where they will delve into the fascinating world of wildlife and trees. We will explore how wildlife coexists with trees, covering topics such as camouflage, and learn about the various trees in our surroundings!

  • Date: July 26th 

  • Time: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

  • Age Group: 3rd through 5th graders

  • Location: 1911 W 34th St 

Trees for Houston will provide a light snack for the kids. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions or allergies during registration.

Drop-off between 9:00 and 9:30 am and pick-up between 12:00 and 12:30 pm.

Delmar Stadium Fruit Tree Giveaway!

Drive by on Saturday, March 16 and pick up free trees to beautify your home, street, or neighborhood!

We will be giving away over 3,000 fruit trees at Delmar Stadium (2020 Mangum Rd, 77092). Entrance will be on Dacoma Street.

The event will tentatively start at 9AM or a few minutes before and go until - noon, or while supplies last. Species are first come first serve. *Please Note: For road safety and depending on the amount of cars already in line, officers will advise to start earlier.

**LIMITED TO 3 TREES PER HOUSEHOLD**
** NO MORE THAN 2 HOUSEHOLDS PER VEHICLE**

3 gallon species: Barbados Cherry, Brown Turkey Fig, Donut Peach, Red Baron Peach, Kieffer Pear, Pineapple Pear, Mid Pride Peach, Premier Blueberry.

Please be sure to have your trunks and back seats clear and ready for your trees. For your and everyone's safety, please be sure to remain seated in your car.

Kids can get their hands dirty and learn about trees while potting up their very own seedling! The event kicks off with a short educational lesson at 2:00 PM, followed by potting up activities and optional crafts.
